Half Price Books peppered the metro with words on Tuesday, donating 8,500 books in their annual book giveaway.

Local non-profits, teachers, and parents lined up to claim their boxes.

The books range from picture books for toddlers to chapter books for young adults.

Participants say the giveaway is an annual treat for students in our area.

Half Price Books store manager Ben Jacobi, said, “They don't really say too much. They just get really excited and you can see that the parents are happy too. They're going to be able to read to their kids."

Kari Mettenbrink, with the Star Elementary School library, said, “Reading is amazing. It can get you to do anything in life. It'll help kids get to middle school and high school if they can learn to read and they learn that reading is fun."

Half Price Books said this year’s giveaway had the biggest turnout yet. The books were all gone in about 20 minutes.
