A former Elkhorn Valley teacher has been sentenced to 18-to-24 months in prison in a student sex case.

29-year-old Lee Burenheide of Tilden was ordered Friday in Madison County District Court to register as a sex offender for 25 years after his release.

Burenheide pleaded guilty in September to two counts of
third-degree sexual assault and one count of visual depiction of
sexual conduct.

Court documents filed by prosecutors say the charges stemmed
from Burenheide's sexual contact with two teenage girls. He's
accused of sending inappropriate messages and photos to them.

Burenheide had taught science at Elkhorn Valley High School. He
resigned in January.
