The Lincoln mayor's office says former City Council member Jayne Snyder has died at the age of 66. Snyder died early Thursday morning of cancer. A schedule of services isn't available yet.
Snyder cited health reasons when she resigned early last month. She'd said in October 2010 that she had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Snyder was elected to her at-large council seat in May 2009. Mayor Chris Beutler praised Snyder's strength, courage and grace in the face of her illness, and he said she "cared more about people than politics."
Snyder was replaced on the council by former state Sen. Dianna Schimek, whose appointment was confirmed by the council last week.
Services for Jayne Snyder will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, October 10 at First-Plymouth Congregational Church, 2000 “D” Street in Lincoln.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Jayne L. Snyder Physical Therapy Memorial Scholarship Fund at the St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center Foundation, 555 S. 70th, Lincoln, Nebraska 68510.
