A school teacher slipped through the cracks when he was cited in a lewd conduct case. He has been fired but we continue to look for the reason why he continued to get paid for months after the crime.
Michael McIntosh is no longer an employee of Omaha Public Schools. He was terminated as of last Friday.
OPS didn't hear about his arrest until his conviction last month when we contacted the district.
McIntosh collected a paycheck for 10 days while in jail until OPS fired him. We asked the district why it took so long. OPS says it can't comment because it's a personnel decision.
The case originated in February in the parking lot at the Bellevue Walmart.
A caller to 911 said, “There is a guy in a Pontiac Vibe who came up to me -- asked how to get to 370. I said I'm not the person to ask because I'm not good at directions. I look down and he's masturbating. Completely exposed."
The caller got a license plate. It wasn't long before Bellevue Police spotted the car and approached the driver.
An officer said, “You pulled up to her and asked her for directions to 370 -- which you obviously know where that is and you were masturbating.”
Officer: “I think you're lying.”
McIntosh: “I was just curious.”
Officer: “No, no. That's just stupid.”
McIntosh was ticketed for public indecency and was found guilty last month. He's serving a six-month jail sentence.
He said he didn't remember the incident because of pain pills he took for dental work.
After being ticketed, McIntosh left and went back to work for the rest of the year as a high school English teacher at Bryan. The school never heard about the misdemeanor ticket.
At the time of the citation, the officer asked him, “Where do you work?”
McIntosh: “Godfathers Pizza.”
McIntosh: “The one on 36th and 370.”
Officer: “What do you do there?”
McIntosh: “I'm a delivery driver.”
Godfathers fired him last month, right after hearing about his conviction. OPS terminated him last Friday.
