A Lincoln man judged insane after killing his cousin in 2001 has been returned to the state psychiatric hospital.

The Lincoln Journal Star says 32-year-old Brandon Irland had been doing well in the CenterPointe Adult Residential Program, where he'd been sent by a court a year ago.

But his attorney, Joe Nigro, told Judge Steven Burns earlier this week that funding for Irland's treatment ends Friday.

CenterPointe staffers had said Irland had received the maximum benefit for treatment and had met the program goals.

CenterPointe suggested Irland live with his mother, participate in a CenterPointe outpatient program and have his medication monitored.

But the judge told Irland that Irland didn't have a good track record when given more freedoms, so the judge returned Irland to the hospital.
