The man who was once responsible for overseeing the Buffett Foundation's charity work is going to jail for stealing from the organization.
Thirty-eight-year-old Dhaval Patel was sentenced Wednesday to five years probation and 180 days in jail, both maximum sentences. The judge also ordered that Patel perform 500 hours of community service.
Earlier this year, Patel pleaded guilty to theft for stealing $46,000 from the charity. Foundation officials said Patel doctored travel expenses and receipts. The documents were turned over to police when officials became suspicious.
