Fontenelle Park Sprayground Closed

Families across the metro enjoyed the holiday by cooling off at a sprayground. But some who wanted to use the Fontenelle Park Splash Pad were left high and dry.

The dumping bells, spinners, and water jellies were completely dry at Fontenelle Park Sprayground on the first day it was supposed to open for the season. Vandals broke into the area which housed the sprayground equipment. They stripped copper wiring leaving the park unable to pump water.

Michelle Wells and her granddaughters are forced to stay on the nearby playground.

“They should think twice before they do things like that because all they're doing is hurting the kids and getting themselves put in jail for something petty like that. It's stupid I don't think it's right," Wells explained.

The Omaha Parks and Recreation Department says it's only closed temporarily until they're able to fix the equipment.

"I hope they fix it really soon because for some of the kids that's the closest park they have and they don't have transportation to get to other parks and that's the only way they have fun," said Kimberli Degante.

The parks department didn’t say when they expect to have the Fontenelle Sprayground reopened.
