During the hottest part of the year, air conditioner thefts continue to be a problem in Omaha. Piccolo's Florist at 84th and Maple is one of the latest victims.
Last week workers at the store found out their outside air conditioner had been stolen when things started to heat up inside. They called the HVAC contractor who gave them the bad news.
Piccolo's has a new unit installed. But the new one is installed with a protective cage over the top to at least slow down any would-be thieves in the future.
Fortunately the a/c outage didn't affect the flowers inside the store.
“The flowers are in the cooler. The designers are wilting a bit. But the flowers are fine,” said general manager, Frank Piccolo.
This is the second time this year that Piccolo's has had an a/c unit stolen. Back in February they had one taken from another side of the building.
