The first president of Southeast Community College has died.

The Beatrice-based school says Robert Eicher died Thursday in Lincoln. He was 85.

Eicher became president of the college in 1973 and held that position until 1992. He continued to serve on the SCC Foundation Board of Directors until 2011.

Current president Jack Huck says Eicher was a compassionate leader who provided the foundations for the former vocational school-turned-college. Eicher helped the college integrate schools in Fairbury, Lincoln and Milford into Southeast Community College.

Eicher is survived by three daughters and four grandchildren. His wife, Jan, preceded him in death.

Services have not yet been announced.
