Here we go. The Douglas County Health Department has confirmed the first case of Influenza A of the season. The patient is described as a man in his 30’s who traveled outside the United States. The unidentified man reported flu-like symptoms last week and sought medical treatment. He has since recovered.
Dr. Audi Pour, the director of the county health department says this is about eight weeks earlier than the first case of the flu a year ago. Dr. Pour is encouraging anyone who has not received the flu shot this year to do it as soon as possible now that we have the first confirmed case.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advises anyone older than six months to get the flu vaccination as soon as possible. It is especially encouraged for those who are pregnant.
