For thousands of families in the metro this season, it's a big challenge to find the means to celebrate the holidays with their families.
First Lutheran Church at 31st and Jackson is one that is help make it happen for those families.
The church held its annual Christmas basket distribution Wednesday.
With the help of several donors, the church was able to put together 250 Christmas baskets for families.
Baskets came with food like a turkey and potatoes, along with toiletries.
50 went to families of Jackson School, 50 went to Liberty School, and then the other 150 went to the public.
First Lutheran says it just wants to help families have a happy Christmas.
“Even people that are working, they have a hard time making ends meet. Once you pay the rent, there's not enough money left for people to pay for food, for clothing, or whatever, and we're just here to help,” says Marian Wascher, the coordinator of the program.
First Lutheran has been offering this service to families for around 20 years.
