Firing Into the Air: A Big No-No

Omaha police issued a warning New Year’s Eve that anyone who celebrates the new year by firing a gun into the air will be tracked down, thanks to ShotSpotter technology. By Tuesday morning, police were unable to address the success of the technology as they were busy investigating actual shootings.

However, they have reported at least one arrest of someone illegally discharging a weapon in city limits.

Gang Unit officers report observing a man firing into the air at 12:09am in the area of 30th & Arcadia Avenue.

As officers approached the suspect, he and another man ran into a house.

Both men were taken into custody.

Forty-six-year-old Eugene King was booked for discharging a firearm in city limits and possessing an unregistered firearm.

Forty-two-year-old Marc Snoddy was booked for resisting arrest and obstructing police.
