The city of Omaha has announced a fireworks amnesty day. Anyone who has unspent fireworks can safely dispose of them at two locations July 14.
The locations are the Ambassador Worship Center (the old Wal-Mart property) at 103rd and Fort Street or at Seymour Smith Park at 72nd & Harrison. The sites will be open 9am-3pm July 14.
The city is also making this event a gun amnesty day. Anyone can drop off a gun, ammunition, or other explosives to the same locations. No questions asked.
Police say it is helpful if the guns are unloaded, however, that is not necessary. If you are turning in a loaded gun, or if you do not know if it is loaded, you are asked to tell staff before removing it from your vehicle.
There will be no compensation offered other than peace of mind.
See attached pdf file for a copy of the flyer that is being distributed for this event.
