Firefighters Battle Flames, Cold
A fire Friday morning forced two men out into the bitter cold. They didn't even have time to get dressed.
It broke out around 6:30 a.m., near 32nd and K Streets. Omaha firefighters say when they arrived on scene, flames could be seen shooting out the upper level of the home.
Later Friday morning, investigators said a space heater was to blame. It was running at the foot of a bed in the attic bedroom, when it caught nearby "combustibles" on fire, firefighters said.
Nobody was injured, but firefighters did have to be careful of the cold weather's impact while they worked. Water from their hoses quickly changed to ice, creating slipping hazards.
