A Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska teenager was killed in a one-vehicle rollover crash Friday afternoon.
The Saunders County Sheriff's Department has identified the teen as 17-year-old Desire Gasper.
Saunders County Sheriff Kevin Stukenholtz told Channel 6 News it happened on County Road Y near Fremont just before 1:30 p.m. “It appeared she did not stop for the stop sign, she lost control and over-steered and rolled the vehicle."
Gasper was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. “Accidents are probably gonna happen, if you wear your seat belt you are gonna increase your chances of surviving by a great deal,” said Sheriff Stukenholtz. "The damage to the vehicle, if she would have been wearing her seat belt she possibly could have walked away from the accident."
Those who live nearby said it’s a dangerous road. The sheriff said it can be even more dangerous when vehicles travel too fast and speed was a factor in this accident.
Friends stopped at the scene to pay their respects. “Her personality was skyrocketing, she was the most amazing person that you could think about,” said friend Brittany Hall. “She is always fun, she talked a lot.”
Investigators are awaiting autopsy results.
