Fatal Crash Case Moves Slowly

Deadly crash case moves through court slowly.

23-year-old Chase Lautenbach of Elkhorn will be arraigned next week in Cass County Court on the charge of motor vehicle homicide, a Class I Misdemeanor. He is charged in the death of 44-year-old Keith Turner of Murray last September in a three-vehicle accident on Highway 50. Lautenbach remains free on bond after being booked on the charge on March 20th. Conflicting court dates for Lautenbach’s attorney prompted continuances in the arraignment date.

The Cassgram the civil case filed earlier this year remains active in Cass County District Court. A wrongful death civil suit on behalf of Turner’s three children was filed against Lautenbach. The defense request for a stay of the case was denied this spring. After the stay was denied, the Lautenbach defense filed answers to the plaintiff’s allegations. The Lautenbach filing denies Lautenbach was responsible and says “Turner was at fault…”.
