Family Of Woman Injured In Street Racing Crash Voice Frustration

The family of a 75-year-old woman injured in a recent crash says those who caused the crash were "negligent" and they are frustrated to not see police doing more.

The crash happened on Tuesday morning at 13th and Y streets. The police investigation revealed that two men were drag racing down 13th street when 75-year-old Arlene Joseff's vehicle turned out from Y street onto 13th. The three vehicles collided. The other two drivers, 26-year-old Francisco Jacinto and 32-year-old Israel Jacinto were treated and released from the hospital and cited.

Police have not charged either of them in the crash.

According to her granddaughter, Kim Mitchell, Joseff has injuries to her brain, neck wrist and ribs. "She is in a lot of pain and we are taking it one day at a time. We don’t know what the future holds for her. At 75 years old Arlene has been a very independent person. She has not had to see a doctor in over 35 years. Now this independence has been taken away from her by negligent adults."

Mitchell went on in a statement released by the Nebraska Medical Center to explain frustration with the circumstances surrounding the investigation.

"As a driver’s education instructor in Iowa as well as Arlene’s granddaughter, I’m disappointed that the police department is not taking more action in this case. I'm in dismay that two adults would not be more considerate of the lives around them. These two are out walking the streets while we watch our mother, grandmother, and aunt lay here in so much pain, not knowing if she will ever have her quality of life back."

The family also thanks everyone who has been supporting them throughout this difficult time.

Both men were cited for willful reckless driving. Israel Jacinto was also cited for driving under suspension.
