A family has their four-legged friend to thank for getting them out of a burning home early Wednesday morning.
Just after 1 a.m., firefighters were called to the home on Chippewa Lane near I-80 and 24th Street. They say a fire started on the roof of the home and tore through the structure quickly.
A dog woke the family inside and they all made it out safely.
It took a while for crews to contain the fire. They're still investigating the cause and aren't sure if the family will be able to return to the house.
