Falcons Hatch At Capitol

At least one of four peregrine falcon eggs at the Nebraska State Capitol has hatched.

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission says the first chick emerged Friday morning. The others were expected to hatch over the weekend.

The female peregrine began to lay the eggs in late March, and the pair has been incubating the clutch for the past month. In the past, the pair has laid one to six eggs in a nest outside the 18th floor of the Capitol. Three or four eggs is typical for peregrine falcons.

The falcon nest can be viewed online through the commission's FalcomCam, http://outdoornebraska.ne.gov/wildlife/webcam/peregrine/default.asp.
