Residents of Omaha’s Florence neighborhood have something to celebrate. The Florence Community Center has been given a facelift.
Mayor Jim Suttle and City Councilman Pete Festersen cut the ribbon Friday afternoon in the senior wing of the center at 29th and Bondesson to celebrate the improvements, including a mural on the wall of the gym.
About $300,000 was spent to upgrade the building, which was built in the mid-1970s. “We did new flooring in the weight room, the game room, a couple of our meeting rooms, the senior room, we did a lot of painting, we did the murals that are around us and in the gym, we got new furnishings around the building,” said Omaha City Recreation Manager Kim Haman.
The celebration included music and dancing.
