Experts give levee report. Lake Waconda Sanitary & Improvement District #1 receives engineer’s opinion.
Douglas S. Dreessen of TD2 Engineering and Surveying wrote last week: “...a greatly reduced level of flood threat exists at Lake Wa-Con-Da. We have recently reviewed the condition of the levee and the levee is stable.
It is our opinion that the flood risk to the lake is very near typical conditions seen this time of year and the levee is in a condition to prevent flooding based on existing and projected river levels over the next few months. An evaluation and repair by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has been completed and any identified damage from the flood event is proposed to be repaired prior to potential high water in the spring of 2012.”
The Cassgram says the report states that if there would be a levee failure at this point with the river levels as they are, the lake would flood but the residences would not.
