Heavy rain and thunder pounded the metro overnight and more soaking rain will resume Tuesday afternoon and evening.
Well over two inches of rain pelted the Heartland early Tuesday morning including Council Bluffs with 2.35" and Bennington with a whopping 2.21".
There will be a break in the showers and storms early this afternoon before more waves of showers and storms form by this evening. A storm system will stall out and bring more periods of showers and storms that last through at least Thursday.
Widespread severe weather is not expected but heavy rain and flooding will be a concern.
