The former executive director of the Lincoln YWCA has been sent to prison for stealing thousands of dollars.
Forty-two-year-old Denise Serrett was sentenced Tuesday to four to five years in prison and ordered to pay restitution of more than $27,800. She'd pleaded no contest to felony theft.
Serrett, who is also known as Denise Scholl-Serrett, had resigned in February of last year days before she was sentenced to probation for stealing from another former employer.
YWCA officials audited the nonprofit's books for December 2011 through February 2013 after learning that Serrett had stolen thousands of dollars from Omaha-based property management company DEI Communities, where she had been vice president of human resources.
