Imprisoned Ex-Police Officer Pleads No Contest To New Crime

A former Lincoln police officer in prison for stealing from a police union charity fund has pleaded no contest to a new crime. Cassandra Briggs has pleaded no contest to falsely claiming that her ATM card had been stolen while she was in prison.

Briggs entered the plea to a felony forgery charge, so her prison sentence may grow because she faces up to five more years. She's already serving a two-to-four-year sentence for stealing from the charity program.

Police say Briggs initially denied knowing anyone in Florida where the withdrawals were made, but later admitted her mother lives there. Briggs' mother told investigators that Briggs had given her the ATM card to help pay for her son's care while she's incarcerated.
