A former Nebraska football team captain has been given 300 days in jail on a marijuana charge.
Thirty-eight-year-old Vershan Jackson was sentenced Thursday in Lincoln. He'd pleaded no contest to attempted possession for sale of a controlled substance. Prosecutors had lowered the charge in return for Jackson's plea.
Lincoln police say an officer watched a marijuana sale occur July 18, 2012 between Jackson and another man in a grocery store parking lot. The other man, 33-year-old Presha Allen, was given the same sentence after pleading guilty to a marijuana charge.
Jackson, a tight end, was a captain during the Huskers' 1997 season.
