A former Clarke University softball coach is suing the Dubuque, Iowa school claiming she was fired because she rejected efforts to make her appear more feminine.

Jaclyn Salzwedel filed the lawsuit against the university, Athletic Director Curt Long and Vice President for Student Life Kate Zanger.

The lawsuit says she usually wore long cargo shorts and polo or T-shirts to work and eschewed makeup. The lawsuit says Zanger began asking Salzwedel in 2012 to wear makeup and more-feminine clothing. Salzwedel says she also was given a new hairstyle and a lesson on how to apply makeup.

Salzwedel was fired after three seasons with a 40-90 record.

Clarke officials declined comment, calling the lawsuit a personnel matter.
