Ethanol Only Drag Race

The drag racing competition in Kearney next month will showcase ethanol-powered muscle cars that are capable of going 180 mph.

The ethanol-powered cars will perform at various times throughout the NHRA Ethanol National Open on the weekend of Oct. 6th-7th.

The ethanol cars are street-legal vehicles running on E85 fuel. Kearney Raceway's Grady Koch says he believes fans will be impressed with the way the muscle cars perform on ethanol. The competition begins at 1 p.m. each day and it costs $15 for adult one-day admission. A child ticket costs $5 a day.

The Nebraska Ethanol Board and Nebraska Corn Board are promoting the event to help demonstrate that ethanol is a high-performance fuel.
