A sentencing hearing held for 21-year-old Bellevue man on two Class I Misdemeanor convictions. The Cassgram reports Cass County District Court Judge Randall Rehmeier sentenced Jose David Rodriguez-Valenzuela to one year on third degree assault and six months on attempted terroristic threats, said Chief Deputy Cass County Attorney Colin Palm. The convictions stemmed from a domestic disturbance in Plattsmouth.
Rodriguez-Valenzuela had entered no contest pleas as part of a plea agreement in which the prosecution amended the terroristic threat count down from a Class IV Felony and dismissed a Class III Felony count of use of a weapon to commit a felony.
Plattsmouth Police responded to an assault call at 6:17am on May 8th of this year at an apartment complex on South 15th Street. Upon arrival officers found Rodriguez-Valenzuela’s estranged wife with a bloody nose, a cut lip and other injuries. Palm said the 22-year-old woman told the officers that Rodriguez-Valenzuela had sat on her, punched her and brandished a knife in her direction.
The sentences were ordered to be served consecutively so Rodriguez-Valenzuela, who has been in custody in jail since his arrest, must serve just over two more months before being released.
