An inmate at the Nebraska State Penitentiary in Lincoln had a few hours of freedom Thursday. Juan Ramirez escaped by jumping out of a vehicle while he was being returned to the prison from work release.
The 33-year-old inmate made his escape around 1 p.m. at the intersection of 27th & Highway 2. He was captured around 3:15 p.m.
The Nebraska State Patrol and Lincoln police launched a search for him after the escape both on the ground and in the air. They considered him a non-violent inmate.
Earlier in the day, he was ticketed by law enforcement who talked to him about an alleged burglary at a home on Tuesday. Ramirez is currently serving a sentence of 10-15 years for burglary and firearm offenses in Dawes County.
