Ernie Chambers Wants His Old Job Back

Former Nebraska Senator Ernie Chambers has filed the necessary paperwork to run for his old seat in the Unicameral.

Chambers is the longest serving state senator in Nebraska history; having served 38 years before term limits forced him out in 2009. One of the issues he was most well known for was his fight to abolish the death penalty.

Chambers also gained publicity, in 2007, when he filed a lawsuit against God. At the time, he told Channel 6 News it was to call attention to the huge number of frivolous lawsuits.

Following his time at the state capitol, Chambers was elected to the Learning Community Board in 2008. He currently represents Achievement Subcouncil 2.

Brenda Council has held the District 11 seat since Chambers left the Unicameral. She has filed for re-election.
