Dozens of vehicles in parking lots around Eppley airfield have been battered by hail stones. Some were baseball sized judging by the holes in car windows.
Kelsey Simmons had just picked up a friend at the airport when the hail peppered her Volkswagen Beetle. Kelsey said, “My car looks like a golf ball” referring to all the hail dents on it. Damage could be seen on three or four cars in a row then others hardly a scratch.
Tony Welch said, “Some of the vehicles look pretty good then ones right next to them are devastated.” Welch had his flight canceled so he returned to long term parking find his pickup with a broken windshield and numerous hail dents.
Many travelers who parked in lots around the airport are still away either on business or vacation. When returning they’ll be greeted by expensive repairs and phone calls to insurance agents. How much is my deductible is a question that will be asked often.
