A summer staple in Omaha could be going away. Organizers of the Cox Classic at Champions Run say contracts for the golf tournament are up in the air right now.
They are trying to resolve everything to bring the tournament back. It brings about 120,000 spectators to the course at North 132nd and Maple streets every year.
Organizers say it’s something the metro deserves. “Just kind of the nature of the beast, contracts come in, contracts go away and all that good stuff, that's just part of the thing,” says tournament director Chad Mardesen. “We are working hard to get them all resigned and working hard to make this tournament happen.”
The event has been held in Omaha since 1996. It runs Thursday through Sunday.
The Cox Classic still needs about 5 to 10 volunteers to help with the tournament. If you'd like to participate, contact The First Tee Of Omaha organization by calling 402-915-3929.
