Emergency Services Studied

Final analysis and survey compilation now underway by the special committee studying emergency medical services and the future needs of EMS in Cass County.

District 3 Cass County Commissioner Jim Peterson of the committee told the county board a report is expected to be ready for presentation to the board within 60 days.

The Cassgram reports the committee has studied the EMS assessment report completed several months ago and conducted interviews with emergency responder units throughout the county.

“One aspect that has come up within the last year and a half process is that it may be necessary for us to try to find some alternative method of financing” and how it applies to hospital districts, ambulance districts and such, said Peterson. In order to do that, assistance from an attorney specializing in that financing is needed, he said.

County board members unanimously approved retaining a Lincoln attorney who worked on EMS district financing in Gage County.

Peterson said the estimate is the attorney will work 10 to 20 hours in meeting with committee members and then compiling the information. The rate will be $285 an hour.
