Some elementary school children are getting the opportunity to learn about how a bank works and how to save.
US Bank partnered with UNO to bring banking to several elementary schools in the metro. It’s been a big hit at Bloomer Elementary in Council Bluffs. Every Tuesday representatives with the bank come in to the school and students can deposit money to their passbook account.
Tracy Hass with US Bank says the program has been in place for almost two years. She says in all the students have saved over $24,000 dollars. She says they students also win prizes for the more they save.
The students will receive a check for what they saved at the end of 5th grade or they can decide to keep the account open.
Students can also interview to be one of the workers who run the bank at the school. Teachers say it’s been a great experience that the students enjoy.
