Nearly four years ago, the small town of Elk Horn, Iowa became the only stop with public car chargers for electric vehicles between Denver and Chicago. That sure has changed.
Since then, a number of charging stations have popped up in the metro. Several car dealerships who sell electric vehicles have them. The city of Seward, Nebraska, put in three this summer. Nebraska City has one at City Hall and so does Ogallala.
Elk Horn wanted to be in on the ground floor of the new technology. "If you build it, they will come," said Mike Howard. The city continues to field many calls about how the car chargers work.
