The head of the Lincoln Electric System is getting a substantial raise.
The Lincoln Journal Star reports the city-owned utility's board approved a 6.3 percent raise for administrator and chief executive officer Kevin Wailes. The increase brings his annual salary to $299,900, retroactive to June 1.
Board chairwoman Marilyn McNabb says the utility tries to pay people close to the midpoint salary range based on a survey of peer electric utilities.
Even with the increase, McNabb says Wailes' salary is below that midpoint.
Wailes has worked at the utility for three years.
The Lincoln Electric System has 465 employees and about 127,000 customers in Lancaster County.
