Clarinda, Iowa police reported early Wednesday morning that Sara Billie turned herself in and turned over her 8-month-old daughter after a day on the run. Billie is in the hospital, but will face new charges when she is released.
Police tell Channel 6 News that Billie suffered a medical emergency shortly after turning herself in. She is in a Council Bluffs hospital, but will face a new charge of violating custody rights in Pottawattamie County.
Billie ran off with daughter Taliah during a supervised visit with a case worker at the Village Inn on Broadway in Council Bluffs on Sunday. Authorities say the case worker had to go to the restroom, she invited Sara and the baby along so she could keep an eye on them, but when the case worked closed the door to use the facilities, Sara took the baby and ran out.
Sara's family is worried about her and the baby. "Sara is not mentally stable, she is a known drug user, she abuses alcohol," said Sara's mother Curstie Kier.
There were warrants out for Sara in Page and Pottawattamie counties.
"When she talked to me two nights ago she told me she was going to go for her visit with Taliah and then she was going to turn herself in to Page County and then I was told by my mother that she fled with her," said Kier.
