A 31-year-old Lincoln woman was arrested Wednesday for allegedly taking donations from church members by claiming she had only three months to live. April Nesslein faces a charge of felony theft by deception.
Lincoln police contacted by the Department of Health and Human Services last fall were told Nesslein accepted money from individuals for medical conditions she did not have. Nesslein claimed to be suffering from cancer, brain tumors and stage four lymphoma.
Police said she took nearly $12,000 between September 2nd and October 31st. Nesslein told them she had to pay for rent, clothing, groceries, new furniture and other household items.
