A suspected drunk driver was arrested during the funeral procession for a fallen officer.
Saunders County Sheriff Kevin Stukenholtz told Channel Six News that a suspected drunk driver crashed into two cars, that had pulled to the side of the highway to show respect for the funeral procession of Ashland police officer Daniel Ottis. Ottis was killed last week while riding his motorcycle off duty.
As the procession neared the intersection of Highway 77 and Highway 109, just south of Fremont, the suspected drunk driver rear-ended one car and clipped the mirror of another before trying to drive on; however, the sheriff said it appears the suspected drunk driver’s vehicle broke a tie rod and came to a stop.
County attorney Scott Tingelhoff identified the suspected drunk driver as Gerald Haan from Iowa.
