Injury accident due to photo stop. It happened north of Elmwood about 5pm Monday. Cass County Sheriff Wm C. Brueggemann advised that deputies along with Elmwood Volunteer Fire and Rescue responded to the injury accident on Highway 1.
The Cassgram reports a silver 1999 Chevy S-10 pickup driven by Donna L. Mason, age 53, of Weeping Water was northbound on Highway 1. Brueggemann says Mason signaled and pulled over to the side of the road to photograph a deer along the roadway, a deer which Mason had previously struck a few days earlier.
A silver 2002 Chevy Impala driven by Cherisa Behrends, age 19, of Elmwood was traveling behind Mason and was able to stop safely.
However, a red 1996 Buick Regal driven by Megan L. Campbell age 18, of Elmwood was traveling third in line northbound and overcorrected to avoid a collision with Behrend’s vehicle, striking Mason's Chevy S-10 and causing it to spin, said the report. The airbags in the Campbell vehicle deployed.
Elmwood rescue transported Campbell to Bryan LGH West Hospital in Lincoln with injuries. Alcohol was not a factor. Citations are pending, said the sheriff.
