A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for eastern Harrison, southeastern Monona, northern Pottawattamie and western Shelby counties until 4:45 p.m., Nemaha, northeastern Pawnee and northwestern Richardson counties until 5 p.m. and eastern Fremont, southeastern Mills, southern Montgomery and Page counties until 5:15 p.m.
A driver was lucky to escape a fiery crash south of Crescent, Iowa Saturday morning.
Pottawattamie County Sheriff's Department deputies said the driver lost control of his car as he was heading northbound on Old Lincoln Highway just after 4 a.m. The vehicle went off the pavement near Lapworth Road, crashed into an embankment, spun around and landed in a drainage ditch. The driver managed to crawl from the wreck and go to nearby house for help. He did not request medical attention.
The car caught fire and was destroyed by the time rescue crews reached the scene.
