A judge has fined an 88-year-old Lincoln woman $100 for backing over and killing former state senator Jennie Robak last month in a grocery store parking lot.

The fine was the maximum punishment for the traffic infraction. Imogene Bruce pleaded no contest Wednesday to careless driving. Police say Bruce accidentally accelerated when trying to stop as Robak walked behind her car on January 3rd.

Before the court hearing, Bruce said she was sorry for what happened. Her lawyer said Bruce has given up her driver's license.

Robak represented the Columbus area in the Legislature from 1989 until 2003.
