Authorities have booked 26-year-old Nicholas Marescalco for manslaughter in connection with a fatal traffic accident. Sharlee Arnett, 25, was killed when the truck Marescalco was driving slammed into a pole.
The accident happened around 2 p.m. last Sunday, July 6th, near John Galt Boulevard and Q Street.
Arnett was a passenger in the truck. She was thrown from the vehicle and transported to the Nebraska Medical Center where she died.
The victim’s sister, Brenna Arnett, told WOWT 6 News Friday night, "I don't know how to feel about it right now. I'm just more worried about trying to find peace, just to let my sister go."
Brenna said, "I found out Monday morning at 2, to 3 o'clock in the morning is when I found out. And how I found out is that Nick's mother posted something on Facebook saying that Sharlee, that she rest in peace or rest peacefully.
"It was like I was in a nightmare and I just wanted somebody to wake me up."
Nicholas Marescalco and Sharlee Arnett were engaged.
Marescalco is due in court next week. He’s currently being held in the Douglas County Jail.
A memorial service is scheduled for Sharlee Arnett at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Laurel Haven Baptist Church in Morganton, NC.
The family says donations are still needed to cover expenses. Donations may be made at the memorial service or online.
