Man injured in crash buried for a time in gravel.
Sheriff’s deputies, Weeping Water Fire and Rescue, and Cass County Emergency Management Agency responded to a one-vehicle rollover accident on State Spur 13K (Weeping Water Spur) approximately 1/4 mile west of 156th Street at 8:29am.
The Cassgram reports Cass County Sheriff Wm. C. Brueggemann advised that Cody Lindsey, 26, Weeping Water, was eastbound when he lost control of his 2007 Ford F-250 pickup which was pulling a 1995 dump trailer. The truck ran off the south side of the road, off an embankment, and into a lake owned by Martin Marietta. (sheriff’s photo at www.cassgram.com)
A passerby, Christopher Stackpole, 32, Weeping Water, witnessed the accident and stopped to assist. Stackpole found Lindsey to be outside of the truck, buried up to his neck in the gravel that the overturned trailer had been hauling. (Deputies later learned that Lindsey had purposely exited the vehicle when it was evident he was going to end up in the lake.)
Stackpole advised deputies that Lindsey had an altered level of consciousness and difficulty breathing when he first arrived. By the time the first unit arrived Lindsey was out from underneath the gravel and was conscious and talking, however had no recollection of the accident or the events leading up to the accident, said Brueggemann. Lindsey was transported to University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Lindsey's injuries are not believed to be life threatening. Lindsey was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.
No charges are pending. The investigation is complete.
