Drive For Drives Creates Traffic

The response to Goodwill’s Drive For Drives was overwhelming on Saturday as old computers and electronics were collected at Omaha's Crossroads Mall.

The items will be recycled or sold at Goodwill stores. Goodwill held a similar drive last spring, but so many donations came in Saturday police had to help direct traffic.

“We've got printers, computers, monitors, we've even got some VCRs, electronics, we've even had people bringing in clothing, which we're Goodwill so we can take care of it, make sure it gets dealt with,” said Randy Parks, chief operating officer for Goodwill.

If the computer parts can be sold, Goodwill will wipe the hard drive and put new software on it. If it is not usable, they work with Dell to recycle it properly so none of the items end up in a landfill.

If you missed the drop-off, which was sponsored by Channel 6, you can always donate your old electronics at any Goodwill store.
