Welcome to boot camp at Gene Leahy Mall in downtown Omaha.
“Alright guys we're gonna get started,” personal trainer Dan Kohler.
Three days a week for three weeks, the Omaha Downtown Improvement District and the Downtown Family YMCA take over hosting free boot camp.
“It's extremely convenient for me,” Jessica O’Neel said.
She works just blocks from the park, which is located at 14th and Farnam. It's a part of a two month long program called “Activate downtown, Activate yourself.” A program designed to introduce people to each other and some of downtown Omaha’s public places.
“It doesn't take much all they need is some workout clothes and all they need and they're ready to go,” Kohler said.
And it really is just that convenient you can pop in right after work and get a workout of your own intensity.
“Those who may be more lead athletes or weekend athletes. Those who may be more sedentary or just starting to get out and be active. It's really nice that they push you to do your best but also provide you breaks. But make your exercise as difficult or as easy as you need,” O’Neel said.
And as word of the free classes spread. Trainers say more than 40 people show for each session.
“I love sort of making people better,” Kohler said.
Which in this case makes for a better for you and better for downtown.
Boot camp ends in two weeks but the Downtown Improvement District is also hosting race conditioning and Zumba classes. Each participant has to sign a consent form to participate but you don't have to register ahead of time.
