The Omaha Police Department's Mounted Patrol Unit will receive a donation in honor of a Lincoln Police Officer who died after a long battle with cancer.

The late Vicki Bourg’s personal horse, “Skinny”, will be donated to Omaha Police on Tuesday, November 19, 2013. A ceremony will take place at noon at the Lancaster Events Center, 4100 North 84th Street, Lincoln, NE.

Vicki was a Lincoln Police Officer, and School Resource Officer at Lincoln Northstar. She passed away on January 24, 2011, at the age of 40, after a long battle with cancer.

The donation is being made by Vicki’s husband, Jesse Bourg. Jesse would also like to raise awareness for the Vicki Bourg Memorial Scholarship, which benefits the Lincoln Public School Foundation.

Skinny stands 15.2 hands high. The 12-year old horse was ridden and trained in various environments, including the mountains, and as a rodeo pickup horse.

Once OPD takes possession of Skinny, he will go through a series of tests, and training, before being officially assigned as a member of the Mounted Patrol Unit.
