A one year sentence for Weeping Water man for domestic violence. 28-year-old Trevor J. Bickford is now serving the sentence in the Nebraska Department of Corrections system.
The Cassgram reports Bickford had pleaded guilty to third degree domestic assault, a Class I Misdemeanor.
Deputy Cass County Attorney Steve Sunde said Bickford punched his girlfriend in the eye, causing swelling and bruising, during an argument that ensued after he received a text message from another woman.
Documents from Cass County District Court Judge Randall Rehmeier say “imprisonment of the defendant is necessary for the protection of the public because the risk is substantial that the defendant will engage in additional criminal conduct if placed on probation."
Bickford had originally faced a felony charge but entered the guilty to the amended charge as part of a plea agreement.
