Police have not said whether the pair helped with the investigation into the shooting death of 41-year-old John Rodarte Jr.
Robert Hashberger appeared for his arraignment Thursday morning, facing a murder charge. He denied a Channel 6 News request for an interview.
Witnesses described what they saw that night at 1200 7th Avenue. “(He) didn’t do anything, just stood right there next to him the whole time," said neighbor Mindy Cline.
Why didn't Hashberger run? Police say he is claiming self-defense and running would have only made things worse.
"From what he's told us, he believes it was self-defense, he believes if he were to cooperate with police everything would have been fine said detective Ray Robinson.
Rodarte's criminal past includes assault and domestic assault charges, one of which he served jail time for in 2007.
Hashberger's history shows a 2002 harassment case for which he paid a $200 fine. Because his criminal history was considered to be unremarkable, he was able to obtain a permit to carry a concealed weapon.
