When southeastern Nebraska authorities received a distress call about 6:30 p.m. Monday, they jumped to action. Four girls said they were lost while rafting along the Blue River in Gage County and a storm was coming their way.

Sheriff Millard Gustafson reports that when deputies first arrived, they found the girls’ vehicle near Juniper Road and Blue Ridge Road about two miles south of Beatrice. A Nebraska State Patrol trooper joined the search along the river.

A deputy using an ATV was able to find the girls in a wooded area about a mile from their vehicle. They were not injured and brought to safety before the weather moved in.
